Well gathering is very easy to level up and can be done on your free time. If I wasnt leveling up other jobs and crafts then I would be completely doing mining and botony to 50 like my fishing. If you really dont want to do those then the few hig level items you can farm would be:
1. mats for felt (theres 2 that are hard to come by)
2. Hides like Raptor, Hog/boar and toad
I would suggest giving 1/2 to 3/4 of what you collect to your crafting friends and selling the rest to make some gil. You will come out ahead in the end because your friend will love you and think about you when making items and you will earn gil in the process.

my friend "owes" me favors cuz i am always helping him make gear..
and another friend made me an entire crafting outfit last night cuz i spent 4 hours with him gathering the mats side by side with him,
then i even made him a gathering outfit as thanks.
if you can get all the mats together ill be more than happy to ask him to make these for you, but dont expect it tomorrow.. playing for a few months or over a year, doesnt make a difference, things take time, and were crafting for a lot of people.. it took me two months to make someone a jacket before, even when they supplied the mats for me, i HQ'ed it, and i got 500k for the effort.. so dont expect HQ to be cheap if you want it. :)

I think I have all the ingots you need now But you will have to trade out with felt mats. :)
Lets say enough for equal amounts of felt? I may not be on till late but we can work it out.
