http://mumble.sourceforge.net/ Mumble is an open source, low-latency, high quality voice chat software primarily intended for use while gaming. Why use mumble in FFXIV?
1. This allows more seamless communication during high intensity fights, like the dungeon (darkhold and strongholds) instances and primal battles (Ifrit and garuda)
2. I like to cyber all night long.
Who can use mumble?
anyone that is a registered member of our website can use the server, its located on the left side bar, and all you need is the client installed on your computer. you dont even need a headset if you dont want to
do i have to talk in mumble?
absolutely not. we ask that you at least listen in on these fights to the party leader, so that way they can direct you easily and not have to type it in, because that takes time and effort for simple things, especially if it has to be done multiple times.
but i dont have audio output
this is 2012, sorry. but get a pair of 10 dollar speakers and plug em in. the game costs more :p
Please, everyone take the time to utilize the 3rd party apps that people have made to our advantage. the more communication that can be conveyed quickly the better we can form as a team, and accomplish greater things. Remember, we're here to help each other so we can get great things for ourselves :)
I don't know who is providing the mumble or if it is courtesy of guildwork, but I have noticed that it is only 10 users. If we continue to expand, I'm willing to part with my EVE currency to provide us a teamspeak server. I'm paying less than 5 cents a slot. Let me know. :D
If we want more space we would need to pay a monthly fee.
The problem is that we can't upgrade only the Mumble server. If we want more place, we also have to get some site upgrade with it (that we probably won't really use). The first upgrade is 8.95/month and gives us room for 15 players.
While I still prefer Mumble over Teamspeak (For the overlay and the fact that Mumble seems to normalize the sound level of everyone automaticly), if 10 places is not enough, we would probably need to move to something else.
We could try Vent. Ventrilo is simmilar to Mumble. Not as nice of a user interface and the push-to-talk feature wouldn't let me select the button on my headphones as the push-button, but it sounds good, allows a seemingly infinite number of players, and was free.
Mumble can be free too if we start our own server.
If we wouldn't have shitty upload speeds in Canada, I would have everything required to host our own server for 30 players 24/7
Edit : The free version of the Ventrilo server is limited to 8 players Edit2 : The free version of Teamspeak server is limited to 1000 players Edit3 : No limitations for Mumble.
I'm doing calculations right now to see how many players I could host on my server.
I can earn over 15 billion ISK a month in EVE. The cost of my 20 man Teamspeak is 35 mil a month. Just putting it into cost perspective. The guy I rent from has offered much much larger servers as well.
You'll want about 6 KB/sec upload rate per user. Most home internet services would tap out at 15-20 users. Not to mention the moment you open BitTorrent the server becomes useless. I ran a server at one point and I felt that I was restricted my own normal internet use in order to accommodate for my users.
I still have a 25 or 50 person server that i was paying about $20 every 3months I could start back up if we run out of slots on a nightly basis. Just let me know
I may have to make Gen not do his cyber sessions on it… :)
Speaking of the overlay. I dunno if I am the only one but if I enable it then FFXIV won't boot.Liono Thundercat
Had that same issue when i first started…not sure what fixed it but when i did a reinstall windows on my ssd it now works fine
I think we should start looking into this as of now and when 2.0 hits it will be a lot more of use. Also when guilds form maybe we can hijack someones server.
